Gigantic (2008)

30. Watch 101 new movies (32/101) (more info)

Rating *1/2

I really love Zooey Deschanel. After recently seeing and really liking (500) Days of Summer, I searched Netflix for other movies she had done and came across Gigantic (2008). The film centers around Brian Weathersby, a 28 year-old mattress salesman. He is the youngest son in a trio of successful brothers and is searching for his place in the world. Unfulfilled by his work he spends a good portion of his day pursuing his goal of someday adopting a baby from China. But then he gets swept up in a romance with the lovely but misguided Harriet Lolly after she comes in to his store one day and falls asleep on one of the beds. To win her over, he must compete with her bear of a father, Al Lolly, played by John Goodman, a loudmouth with a bad back and deep pockets. The story is about the anxiety that comes when two people with crazy families collide unexpectedly and fall for each other.

It sounded like something that I would like, but I didn’t. It was odd (which doesn’t usually deter me) and also a tad boring. I wouldn’t recommend this movie.

oh man this is why i dont like indie films, theyre so cheesy and emo, and the pacing was sooooooooo slow. I couldn’t get into this film. John Goodman is always nice to see though :)

BTW if you want to add a little somethign something to your 101 movie goal, swing by my blog, i review asian cinema. You might find somethign new and exciting over there ;)
