Future Birthplace of Captian Kirk

August 2, 2009

99.   Complete A-Z challenge (2/26) (more info)

R – Riverside, IA

Shane needed to pick up a car from his parents’ house in Iowa so I needed to tag along to drive one of the cars back. After living 15 minutes from Riverside, IA for over three years I’d never been. Shane’s parents live less than 20 minutes away and he hadn’t been either. So after seeing Fanboys I talked him into going to see the future birthplace of Captain James Tiberius Kirk. I hate to admit it but I was disappointed. There was no statue of Kirk battling Khan. There weren’t even any Trekkies. It took us over 20 minutes just to find it. We stopped at the one gas station in town to ask where it was after driving around aimlessly. They didn’t know. The two men I stopped at the gas station also didn’t know. One finally pointed us in the right direction. It was down an alley behind a hair salon and looked like a grave stone. Definitely would be more fun during a Trekkie convention. All in all, still worth the trip :)

Did you know I went to college in Iowa? I went to college in Iowa :) I’ve never been to Riverside though …I had no idea this was there! :) I did go to school across the state, but still…very random, and kind of fun! :)

I didn’t know that! Where did you go? (If you don’t mind me asking)

I hadn’t been to Riverside before either. A lot people go for the casino but I usually worked weekends in college :)
