Here are a few of my favorite all-time films. Films that I think about on a semi-regular basis:
2001 (don’t think of it as a movie, but rather as an allegory for human evolution)
just about anything by Hitchcock, but especially Rope, Rear Window, The Trouble with Harry

I was totally going to suggest Up, but I see you already have it on your list. :) I recently saw it in the theaters, and I really liked it. Very good! Also, if you haven’t seen Amelie, I would highly recommend that movie as well. It is a French movie too, so you could work on your French at the same time.

I’m trying to talk my husband into taking me to Up, but he wants to see Land of the Lost :)

I love Wanted, but I haven’t seen Death Note… I’ll have to look it up. It sounds scary and I tend to not like scary movies.

Not scarry at all. It’s a movie with a very good plot. It’s a movie about a book (The Death Note) when ones name is written in it he dies in 45 seconds, the owner of the book is really smart, also there’s an investigator who’s pretty smart too and he’s trying to solve the case.
Not scarry, just a good plot and some funny japanese acting. Not sure if there’s a dubbed version but I’d recommand watching the original Japanese one with subtitles. =)

OMG Up made me fight back tears for a good chunk of the movie! Curse Pixar and their incredible ability to tell a story!

Also One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a really good movie. You should also put Closer on your list. It’s one of those romantic tragedy movies that’s rather haunting. Very good actors in it, too.
